A 5-year-old running to her father is among those killed in Gaza.


Alaa Qadoum, 5, was at her grandfather’s house in the northern Gaza Strip on Friday when her father and another relative arrived at a nearby mosque on motorbikes, according to a neighbor who witnessed the scene. .

When he saw his father, Abdullah Qadoum, Alaa ran towards him, neighbor Amir Omar said. At that moment, an Israeli air strike hit nearby.

Hours later, Alaa was wrapped in a white shroud and a Palestinian flag, her face covered so her grieving loved ones could place a few final kisses on her forehead before when she is at rest. A bright pink bow ties most of her hair back.

Alaa was among more than a dozen people killed in two days of Israeli air strikes on the Gaza Strip that began Friday afternoon and continued into Saturday.

Last year, in 11 days of fighting between Israel and Hamas, at least 67 children was killed in Gaza. Two children were killed in Israel during the war.

The airstrikes targeted the Palestinian Islamic Jihad, the second-largest militant group in Gaza after Hamas.

It is not clear whether the attack that killed Alaa was against the men, the mosque or another target. Ashraf Qadoum, a relative who went to the mosque with Alaa’s father, and the imam of the mosque, was also killed.

According to the Gaza Health Ministry, Alaa’s father is in critical condition. Her brother was also injured.
