Tragedy struck West Texas this past March, when a pickup truck plowed into oncoming traffic and head-on collision with a truck carrying a college golf team. Both vehicles caught fire and nine people died. According to the NTSB’s investigation, around 8 p.m. on March 15 near the Texas-New Mexico border, the pickup truck, driving at high speed, crossed the oncoming lane of a two-lane highway and collided. directly with the passenger truck. InitialAuthorities said a blown tire caused the truck to veer into the opposite lane. The father and son in the pickup truck, along with six members of the golf team and their coach in the van, were killed. Two members of the golf team survived with serious injuries.

In this new one reportFederal authorities used DNA analysis to conclude that Henrich Siemens, 38, not his 13-year-old son, was driving the pickup truck at the time of the horrific crash. Tests also showed that Siemens had drugs in its system at the time of the crash, with toxicology specifically noting the presence of methamphetamine.

An investigation into the fatal crash is underway. As NTSB’s director of highway safety Robert Molloy told Related press, “It was a very difficult investigation to determine a number of events based on the catastrophic nature of the damage and fire following the accident.” Because of those difficulties, Molloy said the investigation could last until 2023.

In addition to Siemens and his 13-year-old son (who has not been named on the crash list because he is a minor), the Texas Department of Public Safety identified those killed in the crash as 19-year-old Mauricio Sanchez, who Mexico. ; Laci Stone, 18, of Nocona, Texas; Travis Garcia, 19 years old, of Pleasanton, Texas; Jackson Zinn, 22, of Westminster, Colorado; Karisa Raines, 21, of Fort Stockton, Texas; Tiago Sousa, 18 years old, Portuguese; and 26-year-old coach Tyler James of Hobbs, New Mexico.
