co-op gameplay detailed in new trailer – PlayStation.Blog
In Little Nightmares III, players follow the journey of Low & Alone, two best friends trying to escape Nowhere.
Trapped in the Spiral, a group of distorted areas in Nowhere, they will have to work together to survive in a dangerous world full of illusions and escape an even greater threat lurking in the shadows.
Little Nightmares III returns to Gamescom with a brand new trailer, highlighting the interactions between two characters and revealing new environments to explore!
New cooperative features and puzzle mechanics
Little Nightmares III is the first game in the series to feature two-player online co-op. The latest trailer shows off some of the cooperative gameplay mechanics that will come in handy as players play together in cooperative mode or solo against another AI-controlled character.
Low and Alone, the two playable characters, are best friends and complement each other very well. They each have an iconic item: a bow for Low and a wrench for Alone.
Working together will be key to progressing in the game. For example, in the trailer, we see Low taking down smaller enemies with his bow, while Alone has to finish them off on the ground with his wrench.
You can also see Low use his bow effectively at the end of the trailer, saving Alone from Monster Baby’s intense gaze.
However, teamwork is more than just using items. It is also about clearing the way for your partner so they can help you move forward. You will need to be proactive and take the initiative so that you both get through.
“The bond between the two characters is strong, and we were excited to explore that connection in the game. It’s even more meaningful when we see them working together to escape the many threats that make up Nowhere,” said Wayne Garland, Little Nightmares III Game Director at Supermassive Games.
New setting, faithful to the atmosphere of Little Nightmares
Teamwork is at the core of the trailer, but that’s not the only new thing players will experience as they play through the game’s compelling story. By introducing cooperative play, we wanted to give players something new and unique to Little Nightmares III, while still maintaining the series’ beautifully creepy atmosphere.
You’ll feel it in new environments filled with mystery and revelation. You’ll also feel the same tension and suspense as these two captivating new characters face even greater risks than before, searching for a glimmer of hope in a world filled with darkness.
Necropolis is a prime example of a new type of location in the game. Despite being abandoned and painted in warm desert colors, the city still feels eerie and foreboding. Don’t be fooled by the windy, brightly lit environment. Danger is everywhere, and Monster Baby is easily woken up when new toys fall into her crib…
In the trailer, you can also spot several other areas of Nowhere, each one more terrifying than the last. Some of them may be reminiscent of places you might have explored in previous Little Nightmares games, like dank, gloomy vents and the gears and pistons of ruthless machinery. Some are more outlandish, like a rickety Ferris wheel, a dark circus, or a massive, intricate clockwork mechanism.
You’ll have to be patient before we can tell you more about these places and their inhabitants! More news about Little Nightmares III will be revealed in the near future, so stay tuned, kids.
Little Nightmares III will be released in 2025 on PS5 and PS4.
