Our 9 Favorite Pizza Ovens: Wood-Fired, Gas-Fired, and Electric (2024)

There is a reason Why pizza is a menu choice for picky preschoolers, hungry teens, and gourmets alike. Homemade pizzas are a complete meal. They’re irresistible, easy to make, and can be customized to suit a variety of dietary preferences. Until recently, an aspiring pizza maker had no choice but to crank up the oven temperature in their kitchen to the standard 450 degrees Fahrenheit. Now there are many home pizza ovens that can heat up to 900 degrees Fahrenheit—the perfect temperature for making a crispy Neapolitan pizza in minutes.

I tested the pizza oven for a few weeks, using homemade dough (I like Ooni’s Classic Pizza Recipe), fresh dough from the store, and frozen pizza. I also use an infrared thermometer to make sure the temperature of the cooking surface is consistent (and it reads on the built-in thermometer). Pizza ovens are also much more versatile than you might think—I also use them to sear steaks, quickly cook salmon, and sauté broccoli. These are my favorites. For those with limited outdoor space, I’ve included indoor options and an oven that fits on a small deck, balcony, or patio.
