our president Joe Biden on Sunday dropped his re-election bid and endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris as the Democratic Party’s candidate, drawing reactions from leaders around the world.
Biden under pressure from members of his own party to drop out of the race against former President Donald Trumpafter the debate was not highly appreciated.
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau called Biden “a true friend” and “partner of the Canadian people.”
“I have known President Biden for many years. He is a great man, and everything he does is driven by his love for his country. As President, he is a partner to Canadians — and a true friend. To President Biden and the First Lady: thank you,” Trudeau wrote in an Instagram post.
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer says he believes Biden has made his decision based on what is best for the American people, adding that he looks forward to working with them during the remainder of his presidency.
Biden’s “difficult” decision was acknowledged by Polish President Donald Tusk and Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala as stemming from the larger interests of the United States.
“Dear President @JoeBiden. You have made many difficult decisions that have made Poland, the United States, and the world safer, and democracy stronger. I know you share the same motivation as you announce your final decision. Perhaps the most difficult decision of your life,” Tusk writes on social media platform X.
Similarly, Fiala stressed that Biden’s move was “a responsible and personally difficult step, but it was all the more worthwhile.”
Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese praises Biden for acting in what he believed to be the best interests of the United States, “as he has done throughout his public life.”
Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant thanked Biden for his “unwavering support for Israel over the years.”
“Your steadfast support, especially during the war, has been invaluable. We are grateful for your leadership and friendship,” Gallant wrote on X.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy also expressed gratitude. with Biden’s “unwavering support.”
“We will always be grateful for President Biden’s leadership. He stood up for our country during the most dramatic moment in its history, supported us in stopping Putin from taking over our country, and continued to support us throughout this terrible war,” he said.
