WhatsApp rolls out popular new feature for calls and chats, here’s how you can use it
WhatsApp is one of the most used forms of communication in the daily lives of billions of people across the globe. To make conversations more accessible and secure, the instant messaging platform is constantly rolling out new features. The Meta-owned messaging platform has now introduced a new feature called ‘favourites’ that allows users to easily access certain contacts. This update comes weeks after the launch of Context Cards to enhance security in case users are added to unfamiliar group chats.
“Starting today, you can quickly find the people and groups that matter most to you at the top of the Calls tab and as a filter for your chats. Whether it’s a family group chat or a close friend group chat, your ‘favorites’ will be the same across your chats and calls, so you can also speed dial from your Calls tab,” the company shared in a blog post on Tuesday.
Favorite contacts appear at the top of the list in WhatsApp chats and calls. This allows users to filter the people they contact most and prioritize important messages and calls. This helps to better organize conversations because messages from frequently contacted people appear at the top.
This feature can be applied to any saved contact and can be moved to the favorites category. The instant messaging platform has added the favorites filter in addition to the All, Unread, and Group filters.

Steps to use the favorites feature
Here are the simple steps that can be followed to put contacts in favorites:
Open the WhatsApp app and click on the favorites filter present at the top of the chat tab.
Select the contacts and groups you want to mark as favorites. Click the favorites button to view the selected contacts.
To set a contact as a favorite on the WhatsApp Calls tab, click on the ‘Add Favorite’ filter and add the contacts you want.
Go to settings, tap on the favorites option and tap add to favorites to manage the contacts set as favorites. This allows you to make changes and reorder your favorite contacts.
Many users have already started using this new feature while it will be available to all users in the coming weeks. It is expected to receive positive feedback from users as this will save time spent on searching for important calls and messages.

Features in beta
In addition to the launch of the Favorites section, there are also rumors that WhatsApp is testing more new features such as live translation for messages, transcription for voice chats, and video notes for the camera user interface (UI). Since these features are in the testing phase, they are only available to beta testers under the Google Play Beta program.
WhatsApp is expected to complete testing and roll out these features soon.
