Samsung in talks with component partners to ramp up operations in India: TM Roh
Samsung sees India as an important market as Noida and Bengaluru will become the company’s largest R&D centres and is in talks with Indian component partners to strengthen its operations, a senior official said.
Samsung Electronics President and Head of Mobile Experience (MX) Business TM Roh spoke at a press conference on the sidelines of Samsung Unpacked 2024.
“The Indian market is very important for Samsung. We have been operating this manufacturing facility since 1996 and we also have R&D centers in India. The R&D centers in Noida and Bengaluru have become some of the largest R&D centers for Samsung and the MX business.

“They are busy developing flagship products as well as contributing to the development of Galaxy AI technology,” Roh said, adding that these collaborations and efforts will continue in the future.
In January this year, Roh considered India as one of the important manufacturing bases for Samsung and said the South Korean electronics major would start manufacturing laptops this year at its Noida facility.
“We are also working closely with our component partners in the Indian market to strengthen our infrastructure and supply chain. We have been doing so and will continue to do so in the future,” Roh said.
At Samsung Unpacked 2024, the tech giant expanded its wearables portfolio with the launch of the Galaxy Ring, a Galaxy AI-powered health-tracking wearable.
The company also launched its sixth-generation foldable smartphones, the Galaxy Z Fold6 and Z Flip6, along with the Galaxy Buds3 and Galaxy Buds3 Pro.
Both the Galaxy Z Fold6 and Z Flip6 are manufactured at the Noida facility.
“The Indian market is one of the markets where the foldable phone category is growing exponentially and at the heart of it is the Galaxy foldable phone category.
“In particular, the inclusion of health AI in our new products like watches and foldable devices has seen the tremendous contribution and efforts of our Indian R&D centers,” Roh said.
He added that the company expects market demand to grow this year and has high expectations of Indian customers and consumers adopting the new foldable lineup with the combination of optimized Galaxy AI.
“We will get closer to consumers through various initiatives such as live experience programs, games-related promotional activities and Olympic sponsorship activities,” he said.

On monetizing AI services, Roh said mobile AI technologies and their usage patterns are evolving at such a rapid pace that it is too early to comment on how to monetize them.
“I believe that monetization decisions should and will be made based on a comprehensive assessment of customer voice and needs, market demand, market demand, and technology trends and changes,” he said.
