To celebrate the year of Shadow the Hedgehog, Sega is releasing a new animated series officially titled Sonic X Shadow Generations: Dark BeginningsAs part of Anime Expo 2024, the event held a special panel to showcase the first trailer.
In it, you can see not only Shadow (voiced by Kirk Thornton) but also Maria (Stephanie Sheh), And spoiler alert… emerlfirst appeared in the 2003/04 Game Boy Advance Sonic Battle. Studio Giggex is behind the animation, with Ian Flynn on screenplay, and the series will be a “three-part opening” set to premiere this year. Fall.
During the panel, Sonic Team Leader Takashi Iizuka and company presented a “brief history” of the Shadow the Hedgehog timeline, including some of the character’s key moments in his career ahead of the release of Sonic X Shadow Generations later this year as well as Dark Beginnings. They also discussed the process of creating the character.
Oh, and don’t worry about exclusion. Sonic the Hedgehog (2006) and a few other games featuring Shadow the Hedgehog in the timeline above. According to Sega’s lore manager Chris Hernandez, these games are “still recognized.” Here’s what he had to say in response to fans on social media:
“06 is still recognized! Just can’t cram everything in and still call it concise (For example not mentioning the Rivals or Forces DLC)… Things get a little rough with how 06’s story plays out, but trust me, the story and character traits aren’t forgotten”
