Ryan Reynolds: I felt like I was mentally in debt again, but just trying to figure out what that was going to be—and how that was going to happen—took a while. There’s a reason it’s been six years since the last one. These movies just swallow up whole lives. In a normal movie, you have to work hard. But in a movie like this, you give up a lot of things you might take for granted: sleep, seeing your family again, the myth of your current father. There are a lot of sacrifices. I mean, these are all neighborhood problems. I have a very intense relationship with the character and the world he inhabits.

Reynolds: Shawn and I were standing on set Adam Project and I was talking to Marvel here and there, throwing out different ideas—one much of different ideas. It’s hard to find your place in the MCU. It’s hard to understand or find my place, even though I deeply respect it. And so is Deadpool—a huge fan. Ultimately, that’s part of the story.
