Bishop Lamor whiteheads, also known as “Bling Bishop,” was sentenced to prison. The verdict comes three months after he was convicted of fraud and extortion.
Additionally, the bishop’s legal team released a statement in response to the ruling.

According to New York Daily NewsBishop Whitehead was sentenced to nine years in prison on Monday, June 17.
Manhattan Federal Court Judge Lorna Schofield handed down the sentence after the bishop was convicted of defrauding an elderly parishioner “of her life savings” in March, according to Shade room. PIX11 noted that the bishop allegedly defrauded the woman of $90,000.
Additionally, the sentence was handed down to the bishop for his alleged involvement in “other scams.” PIX11 noted that these included “fraudulently applying for a $250,000 business loan using doctored bank statements” and “extorting a businessman for $5,000 ”.
The New York Daily News noted that instead of admitting his alleged wrongdoing, throughout the trial the bishop “named a long list of city and state officials with whom he had dealt.” He reportedly boasted about his relationships with figures such as Mayor Eric Adams, state Attorney General Letitia James and others.
“I don’t see any remorse for your conduct,” Judge Schofield is said to have told Bishop Whitehead during sentencing.
Manhattan US Attorney Damian Williams reportedly shared a statement in response to the bishop’s sentence.
“Lamor Whitehead is a con artist who stole millions of dollars in a string of financial scams and even stole from one of his own parishioners,” Williams asserted. “He lied to federal agents and again to the Court at trial. Today’s sentence puts an end to Whitehead’s various schemes and reflects this Office’s commitment to holding accountable those who abuse their positions of trust.”
PIX11 reports that Bishop Whitehead will also be subject to “three years of probation” following his time in prison. In addition, he was ordered to pay “$85,000 in restitution and forfeit $95,000.”

Based on PIX11Bishop Whitehead’s attorney, Dawn Florio, also reacted to his sentence. Florio noted the “dedication” of her and her team in “proving” the bishop’s “innocence.”
“We will explore all available legal avenues to ensure that justice is served,” Florio said. “Our dedication to proving Bishop Whitehead’s innocence is unwavering and we will immediately begin the appeal process.”
Bishop Whitehead is already behind bars

The 46-year-old man then shared his reaction via social networks.
On May 20, New York Post Office reported that Bishop Whitehead was “sent to federal detention” that same day. The newspaper asserted that the judge determined the “attempted extortion” charge landed him in jail before sentencing.
“In short, this is a case of mandatory detention,” prosecutors wrote in a May 14 court filing.
At the time, the newspaper reported that the bishop faced “a sentence of up to 85 years behind bars.”
