Seven tourists hospitalized in Fiji suspected of alcohol poisoning
Seven tourists in Fiji have been taken to hospital for suspected alcohol poisoning and are said to be in a critical condition.
It is believed they drank cocktails at a bar in the resort on Saturday night local time and shortly after, they experienced nausea, vomiting and neurological symptoms.
Four of the seven people are Australian, with ages ranging from 18 to 56, according to local media citing the Ministry of Health.
The incident happened a few weeks later 6 tourists died in the Southeast Asian country of Laos because of suspected methanol poisoning.
The tourists in Fiji, believed to be staying at a resort on the Coral Coast, were initially taken to Sigatoka Hospital.
According to the Fiji Times, they were all later transferred to Lautoka Hospital.
Two Australian families in Fiji are receiving consular assistance, an Australian Foreign Office spokesman told the BBC.
