Alaska Airlines said a technology issue caused a temporary grounding of Seattle flights Monday morning and problems in the afternoon for people trying to book flights on its website.

The Seattle-based company said in a statement that the problem on Monday morning had led to “significant disruptions” to its operations – including delayed flights. The airline said it requested a 40-minute ground stop at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport to resolve aircraft congestion.

No further details were given about the technological issue and the reason for the disruption was unclear.

A notice on the company’s website Monday afternoon said it was experiencing problems with flight bookings on the website, through the mobile app and at the contact center.

“We sincerely apologize to the guests affected and are working to resolve the issue as soon as possible,” the statement said.
