Details about the separation of Lyle Menendez and his wife
As mentioned, Rebecca was the one who made the news of the breakup public. In her Facebook announcement, she also revealed that she and Lyle broke up for a hot minute. NBA News has reportedly verified that the account belongs to Rebecca Sneed through the Menendez brothers’ attorney. Once again, her announcement appears to contradict Lyle Menedez’s personal statement, dated November 7, 2019. per E! News. However, Sneed assured their supporters that mutual love still exists between them and that she supports the freedom of the Menendez brothers, Lyle and Eric.
“Lyle and I have been separated for a while but remain the best of friends and family,” Sneed wrote. “I continue to run his Facebook pages with his contributions and I am forever committed to the long fight for Lyle and Erik’s freedom, as has been demonstrated over the years.”
In addition to fighting for her freedom, Rebecca added that she will continue to update fans about their case. “I will never stop fighting for them,” she wrote. Although she did not reveal the cause of the breakup, Lyle Menendez’s wife confirmed that their breakup was not because of a “cheating scandal.”
Here’s what Lyle recently said about his estranged wife
For context, Lyle was one of two brothers who infamously murdered their parents in 1989. In October 2024, Los Angeles District Attorney George Gascón shared plans to file a motion for sentencing against the Menendez brothers for murder. However, a few days after the announcement, Gascón lost his re-election bid, meaning the brothers’ case would now fall into the hands of his successor, Nathan Hochman. Hochman has not yet shared any of his intentions regarding the case.

However, as mentioned, Lyle is still fighting for his freedom. His personal statement boasted in court about how his marriage had positively impacted him over the years.
“Learning how to be a husband and partner in prison is challenging. It has also changed my life in many positive ways,” Lyle Menendez wrote. “Her unwavering support and belief in me is what I am most grateful for and has contributed in no small way to my journey to becoming a better person.”
Rebecca Sneed is Lyle’s second wife; Anna Eriksson was his first. The former couple married on July 2, 1996, the same day Lyle was sentenced to life in prison. She filed for divorce in 2001 after allegedly learning he was pen pals with other women.
