Halle Berry isn’t ashamed of aging gracefully and here’s why
Roommates, it seems Halle Berry love her talent for talking before swiping her face card! The Hollywood icon recently got serious about what she wishes people saw in her during an interview with Fortune magazine.
“I was hoping someone would say something other than ‘Oh my God, you’re so beautiful.’ I longed to hear other words. I know I am more than that,” Berry said.
Halle Berry shares her thoughts on aging “gracefully”
Halle also shared that constant compliments about her beauty and society’s standards have influenced her views on aging. The actress told the newspaper that she is determined to age “gracefully and naturally.”
“I think it’s a shame that as women, we’re told that we have to find a way to stay forever young, forever in our 30s – as if we’re not allowed to be who we are and do the things we born to do. We are born to grow old and die. But somehow, as women, we have to do the unimaginable.”
Pressure is causing women to turn themselves into “monsters”, Halle Berry added. “I am committed to being a spokesperson for allowing yourself to age gracefully, knowing that you are more than the shell you walk around in.” The ‘Cat Woman’ superstar turned 58 in August.
The actress said aging is different for men and women
Halle Berry also noted that aging in men and women is different in the eyes of society. The actress said that men have gray hair and become sexy silver foxes, while women grow old and haggard. But she’s not here for that view!
“Society has told us that our time is up; while I know we’re just getting into gear, we’re just getting started. But women still don’t understand that because society has told us something else. So it’s important that we as women reclaim that narrative and change the way we see our whole selves,Halle Berry shares.
Amid her advocacy, Halle Berry launched a wellness business for middle-aged women called react. In addition, the actress is currently lobbying Congress to pass a bill to guide millions of people to research therapies and medications to treat menopause.
