Two college students were shot inside Atlanta’s Ellen45 Lounge
Families are grieving after the deaths of two college students at Atlanta’s Elleven45. Mariam ‘Mari’ Creighton And Nakyris M. Ridley died in a shooting inside the famous living room over the weekend, according to WSB-TV2. Four other people were injured.
What happened in the Elleven45 shooting?
Creighton, 21, was reportedly in the living room celebrating his niece’s birthday when a fight broke out that led to the shooting. This incident happened around 2:30 a.m. on Mother’s Day (May 12). Police are still investigating and have not described the gunman. It’s unclear what caused the war in the first place.
Mari’s niece, Taylor Holmes, 22, was one of the injured. Holmes suffered a gunshot wound to the leg but is now stable. WSB-TV’s recent chat with the Creighton family.
The four injured people were all between 20 and 30 years old. Other than Taylor Holmes, the condition of the injured people is currently unknown.
The deceased college student was just one semester away from graduating
Mariam’s sister, Tiffany Eason, spoke to the newspaper about the late athlete’s talents.
“Mari is very talented. She plays volleyball, does her nails and hair. She can build anything,” Tiffany shared.
Albany State University, where Creighton starred on the volleyball team, released a statement following her death. They sent their sincere condolences [her] family, friends and teammates during this extremely difficult time.”
Meanwhile, Mari’s other sister, Telia Wheeler, said she wished “people would stop filming”. Mari Creighton is just one semester away from graduating with a degree in biology.
“It’s meaningless. My sister was just out having a good time and now our lives have changed forever,” Eason said.
The second college student to die was at the legal drinking age of 21. Nakyris was just 20. It’s unclear whether she and Mari knew each other or if they were in the same area when the shooting broke out.

Ellen45 addressed the incident on Sunday (May 12), deciding to close the lounge for the day to investigate.
“In these challenging times, our commitment to the security and safety of our communities continues to strengthen. We strive to maintain an environment where everyone feels safe. We appreciate the strength and support of our community as we work together toward healing and reassurance. Thank you for your understanding and patience as we get through this difficult time together.”
