Apple prepares to roll out AI-powered app store review summaries to streamline user experience

Apple recently deployed its personal intelligence system, called Apple Intelligence, to select users in the United States, especially those with iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 16 models. The system introduces many AI-driven features, including the ability to summarize text and notifications. Now, Apple is said to be expanding this summary feature to the App Store, the main platform for iOS users to download apps and games.

Automated summaries for customer feedback

A recent report indicates that Apple is working on a new feature to create a summary of App Store reviews, focusing on overall customer feedback for each app. These summaries will automatically update when new reviews are submitted, ensuring users receive timely information.

The summary will appear on the application page

While Apple has not revealed the exact format of these summaries, they are expected to appear on the app’s page, possibly along with an app description and screenshots. This approach is similar to the AI-generated review summaries that Google introduced on the Play Store earlier this year.

It seems likely that Apple will generate these summaries on its servers rather than relying on local processing on the user’s device. Developers will have the opportunity to flag any summaries they find inaccurate, which can improve the reliability of the information provided.

Summaries will appear once an app has accumulated a specific number of reviews, with the feature initially rolling out in select countries and regions. While no official launch date has been announced, the feature’s presence in the App Store API suggests it could launch soon.

The main aim of this initiative is to assist users in quickly identifying applications that may not meet expectations. If successful, this feature could significantly simplify the app selection process, allowing users to avoid downloading apps that don’t suit their needs.
