Dozens of people were injured after a truck crashed into a bus station in central Israel

Dozens of people are believed to have been injured after a truck crashed into a bus stop near an Israeli military base in what is believed to be a targeted attack.

At least six people are in serious condition and others remain trapped under rubble at the scene in Glilot, just north of Tel Aviv.

Police said the circumstances of the incident are still under investigation.

However, local reports said armed civilians in the area shot and “neutralized” the truck driver after he intentionally crashed into people.

Israeli television channels showed police cordoning off the area while emergency workers helped the injured and a helicopter hovered above.

“At 10:08 a.m., the MDA 101 Emergency Call Center in the Yarkon region received a report of a truck crashing into the bus stop on Aharon Yariv Avenue in Ramat Hasharon.

“MDA EMTs and Paramedics are currently providing on-site medical treatment to dozens of casualties,” Israel’s emergency services agency said in a statement.

A spokesman for the Israeli ambulance service was quoted by Israel’s Haaretz newspaper as saying that many of the injured were elderly people who had gotten off the bus before a visit to the nearby Israel Defense Forces (IDF) base in Glilot.
