As challenges grow globally, ‘the world needs the United Nations’, Egypt says

In this direction, Cairo will continue to carry out development initiatives with its neighbors and partners in the Nile basin. However, Egypt remains concerned about Ethiopia’s actions regarding the Renaissance Dam project, which does not take into account the needs of countries living downstream.

However, the world needs the United Nations to address a range of challenges from cybercrime, artificial intelligence to collective security. On the second issue, maintaining peace and security is the Organization’s raison d’être, he said, noting with regret that a number of global agreements, including non-proliferation treaties, nuclear gas, is being looked down upon. At the same time, the Security Council has been unable to stop the ongoing conflicts.

Pledging to strengthen the role of the United Nations, he said the root causes of conflict must be addressed and efforts must be intensified to truly sustain peace. One way to address emerging crises is to strengthen State institutions so that they can fill the void created by political unrest, he added.

For its part, Egypt remains committed to working with regional and international partners to restore the multilateral system, he said. Despite the ongoing crises and challenges, Egypt will continue its efforts to strengthen its human resources through national dialogue that prioritizes human rights and democracy as well as maintaining peace and security in region and worldwide.

“Our young people will continue this vision,” he said. “They are the ones who will build their future and protect human life without discrimination based on race, gender or otherwise, all within the multilateral system.”
