“I am so proud of my little nephew, my little dragon, for making the journey to be with us,” she wrote.

Munn shared on Instagram that Méi, whose name means “plum” in Chinese and was born on September 14, was carried by a surrogate mother whom Munn called a “real-life angel.” Munn has has undergone many surgeries as part of what she describes as “aggressive” treatment for breast cancerincluding a double mastectomy and related reconstructive surgeries, an oophorectomy and a hysterectomy, etc. The surgeries meant removing Munn’s ovaries, uterus and fallopian tubes to stop her body from making estrogen, the type to which her type of breast cancer responds. That same June Fashion In an interview detailing her treatment, Munn said she also froze her eggs because she and Mulaney “felt like we weren’t done having kids yet.”

She said that before chemotherapy, radiation or surgery, she underwent egg retrieval and had two healthy embryos. She knew that even though she couldn’t get pregnant, she and Mulaney still had options.

“A surrogate is no longer a scary prospect for me because there’s nothing I can do,” she said. “I can’t carry a child anymore, so if we want to start a family, that’s our option. This journey has made me realize how grateful I am to have options not only to fight cancer but also to have more children if we want, because I know a lot of people don’t have those options.”

Munn gave a heartfelt thank you to her daughter’s surrogate in a post announcing the baby’s birth.

“I was deeply touched by the fact that I couldn’t carry my daughter,” she wrote. “When I first met my surrogate, we had a mother-to-mother conversation. She showed me so much grace and understanding, I knew I had found a real-life angel. Words cannot express how grateful I am that she kept our child safe for nine months and made our dream come true.”

Mulaney, who is expected to return to Broadway this winter All In: Comedy about love, talked to David Letterman in AprilMunn told his comedian pal that getting pregnant with his son Malcolm was “a huge surprise,” but that becoming a father had changed his life.

“It’s not that I think I won’t [have a child] like… it’s never a good day to have [a kid],” Mulaney said. “I just didn’t think about it. I just… lived minute by minute. And then this guy came along. I was so overwhelmed when I met him. I was like, ‘Oh, there you are.’ I’ve looked in bad places and then, ‘Oh, there you are.’ That was my first thought.”
