With Princess Kate back, Prince William has stepped up his own project

In June 2023William has launched Homewards, a new charity to combat homelessness that he and the Kate Middleton Royal Foundation support. On Thursday, he met with members of the Aberdeen Homewards Alliance, which is bringing his vision to life in the small Scottish city.
In his speech, he announced that Homewards is partnering with the UK’s Blue Light Card to provide discounts and support to around 60,000 people in the UK’s homeless workforce, including housing officers, night shelter managers, outreach workers. He also thanked those involved who have dedicated their lives to tackling the issue, especially those who have experienced homelessness.
“When I launched Homewards last year, I made clear our commitment to work together to prove that it is possible to end homelessness, to make it rare, brief and unrepeatable,” he said. “We knew from the start that Homewards would only succeed if we built on all of your incredible work, knowledge and insights.”
IN a statementHomewards cites news findings from the charity St Martin-in-the-Fields that 52% of frontline workers in the homelessness sector are struggling to pay their bills or housing costs. “By welcoming the sector to the Blue Light Card community, the organisation is recognising the essential service they provide by working tirelessly every day, going above and beyond, in a challenging environment, to prevent homelessness and ensure people have a safe place to call home,” the statement continued.
Speaking to a small group in Aberdeen, he spoke about the conversations that inspired him to set up Homewards, a network of advocacy groups across the UK connecting people who want to tackle the root causes of homelessness in this country.
“I talk to a lot of architects who want to get involved, but they say how can I do that—I don’t know how. There are a lot of people who want to get involved but they don’t know how to help,” he said. “The network is going to be huge for this… It’s going to give you the tools, the kits, so that people can work forever. What’s really important is that Homewards is going to be there for all of you, to create a lasting legacy.”
