iOS 18.1 public beta brings these Apple Intelligence features to iPhone users


Apple has released the iOS 18.1 public beta, following the previous stable release of iOS 18 to compatible devices. The new version is now available for public testing, building on previous developer-only access. The main focus of this update is Apple’s generative AI, called Apple Intelligence, which is being rolled out to users gradually. Not all of these features are working right away, and the company has noted that the release is primarily for testing purposes.

What’s in iOS 18.1 beta?

The iOS 18.1 public beta brings some early Apple Intelligence features, but the update is still in development. It may have bugs, making it less than ideal for use as a primary system. Notably, Apple Intelligence is currently only available in US English, with support for additional languages ​​expected in December.

Apple Intelligence Features You Can Try Right Now

Among the initial Apple Intelligence tools available now is the ability to transcribe phone calls and take audio notes through the Notes app. Users can also access AI-powered writing tools, such as proofreading, summarizing, and rewriting. Other features include email prioritization, smart replies, notification summaries, and photo management through cleanup tools. Users can create memories from photos using text prompts. Additionally, a redesigned Siri now allows for dictation.

Upcoming features and device compatibility

Some of the expected Apple Intelligence features that will be coming later include ChatGPT integration, Genmoji for creating personalized emojis, Image Playground for creating images, and an improved Siri that can understand more personalized contexts.

To access the iOS 18.1 public beta, users should navigate to Settings > General > Software Update > Beta Update, where they can install the iOS 18.1 update. Those interested in Apple Intelligence can sign up via Settings > Apple Intelligence & Siri > Join the Apple Intelligence Waiting List. Supported devices include the iPhone 16 series, iPhone 15 Pro models, as well as iPads and Macs with an M1 chip or later.
