Busy Philipps and Sophia Bush Will Attend Harris Campaign’s Reproductive Freedom Event in North Carolina

If you like your progressive politics with a dash of Millennial nostalgia, then Kamala Harris have plans for you on thursday. Sophia Bush And Philipps is busy. will be on board Harris’s Reproductive Freedom Bus for an event in Charlotte, North Carolina, on Thursday, according to a source familiar with the plans.

Bush and Philipps both have special connections to North Carolina: One Tree Hillthe show that Bush starred in for nine seasons from 2003 to 2012, and Dawson Creekin which Philipps appeared from 2001 to 2003 in its fifth and sixth seasons, both filmed in Wilmington, south of Charlotte.

Both have a history of speaking out in support of reproductive rights and freedom: Philipps has been outspoken for years shares her abortion story when she was 15, including in her memoirs This only hurts a little.and her strong belief in safe and legal abortion access for all. She also an ACLU Artist Ambassador for Reproductive Freedom. When she accepted that role, she said in a statement, “The stories we tell are one of the most powerful ways we have to change people’s hearts and minds. Since I first used my platform to speak out about my own abortion experience as a teenager, I have seen firsthand the impact that speaking out about important issues can have on people’s understanding of how access to abortion puts power back in people’s hands.”

Bush, in a 2022 essay co-written with ex-husband Grant Hughes after Roe v. Wade was overturned, calling the modern state of reproductive freedom “nothing less than a national emergency.” She is a self-proclaimed “democratic nerd” who has been a vocal supporter of the Human Rights Campaign and many other causes, and attended the DNC earlier this summer.

The two will join state leaders and students at the UNC Charlotte campus on Thursday with the goal of rallying young voters in the name of reproductive rights. The campaign plans to make at least 50 stops in both red and blue states in the weeks leading up to Election Day, bringing together a group of celebrities, lawmakers and citizens to discuss the realities and importance of reproductive rights. Donald Trump won North Carolina narrowly in 2020, by a margin close enough that the state could be up for election in 2024.

The star-studded event took place immediately after Harris’ performance—in which she was especially strong when it comes to the key issue of abortion—against Trump in Tuesday’s presidential debate. Can two familiar faces returning to the scene of their pretend high school lives help Harris convert some undecided Southern voters? We won’t have to wait until our lives end to find out. (Sorry.)
