Everything Apple Announced Today: iPhone 16, Apple Watch Series 10, New AirPods
Another new feature on all iPhone 16 models is the Camera Control button. Like the shutter button on a full-size camera, it responds to varying levels of pressure. A light press will track focus on the iPhone 16 Pro models, or you can slide your finger to swipe through zoom levels. A firmer press will take a photo, and a longer press will record video.
As for the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max models, they’re a little bigger! Apple has trimmed down the bezels around the screen to allow for larger screens: 6.3 and 6.9 inches (up from 6.1 and 6.7 inches). There are a bunch of other small upgrades to these phones, including the fact that 5X optical zoom is now available in the smaller iPhone 16 Pro. You can read more about the iPhone 16 range in A detailed overview of these new iPhones.
Pre-orders start September 13. The iPhone 16 costs $799, the iPhone 16 Plus costs $899, the iPhone 16 Pro costs $999, and the iPhone 16 Pro Max costs $1,199. All go on sale September 20. —Julian Chokkattu
A whole new look for Apple Watch
It’s the 10th anniversary of the first Apple Watch, and to celebrate the milestone, Apple has redesigned the latest addition to the lineup, the Watch Series 10. For starters, it’s much lighter and thinner than its predecessor, the Series 9. It has the largest display ever on an Apple Watch, with 30 percent more screen real estate, making it even larger than the massive Apple Watch Ultra. The new display has more rounded edges and a wider-angle OLED display for better visibility when you’re not looking directly at it.
The new watch comes in an attractive glossy black version that’s been polished with silicon nano-particles, making it reflective. Among other improvements to make it thinner, the speaker system has been redesigned so you can play podcasts directly through the Apple Watch speaker. There’s also a more efficient charging coil that can charge the watch to 80 percent in 30 minutes. (There’s no word on how much better the battery life will be, if any.)
