Details about the shooting
A detective with the Toronto police Joint Gun and Gang Task Force gave a press conference early Tuesday morning. At this time, Drake was confirmed not to be the victim, but police did not provide information about whether he was home at the time of the incident.
An adult man, working as a security guard, was shot around 2 a.m. Police declined to clarify whether it was a drive-by or stop-and-shoot situation. However, the suspect is said to have fled the scene in a car.
After receiving the call, police discovered the guard was unconscious and had a “gunshot wound.” According to police, he was standing outside his residence when the shooting occurred. Paramedics transported the man to hospital in “serious” condition. CBC reports that the security guard was said to have undergone surgery at the hospital.
Police said they have video of the incident. However, due to the quality of the video, they are not releasing a description of the vehicle or suspect at this time. Additionally, due to the initial nature of the investigation, they do not have a motive for the shooting. The inspector spoke warning that the neighborhood could expect an increased police presence over the next few hours.
Drake has not yet commented publicly but his team is cooperating with the investigation.
