Forbes ranks Atlanta as the most educated place in America. That’s right! — Georgia’s capital takes the top spot.

Atlanta News First Forbes reports that Atlanta is home to major universities like Georgia Tech, Georgia State University, and Emory University. The city also boasts several HBCUs, including Morehouse, Spelman, and Clark Atlanta.

11Alive Forbes notes that these cities are hubs of innovation and tax revenue, attracting companies looking for top talent, which further drives the concentration of highly educated people.

Forbes clarified that “highest education attainment” is not determined by a single metric. The rankings take into account factors like high school dropout rates, post-graduate attainment, and gender and racial gaps in degree completion in addition to the concentration of college graduates.

The official X account for the City of Atlanta (formerly Twitter) thanked Forbes for naming the city as the most educated. The statement stressed that the recognition reflects the community’s strong commitment to education and learning.

Arlington, Virginia, St. Petersburg, Florida, San Antonio, Texas, and San Diego, California round out the top five most educated cities.
