Investigation into complaints about Israeli ammunition flying over Irish airspace
The Department of Transport of the Republic of Ireland is investigating complaints that ammunition for the Israel Defence Forces was transported through Irish airspace.
These allegations were made on the website The Ditch.
The article claims that a cargo flight to Israel flew through Irish airspace in early 2024.
A Department of Transport spokesman said the carrying of weapons of war on board civil aircraft in Irish airspace is prohibited unless an exemption is granted by the Secretary of State for Transport.
They confirmed that no applications have been received or exemptions granted in 2023 or so far in 2024.
The flight was operated by a civilian airline and the Ministry of Transport said it was cooperating with the investigation.
On Monday, Taoiseach (Irish Prime Minister) Simon Harris said he was seeking information about the reports.
