Chanel’s New Celebrity-Endorsed Sound Jewelry Powered by Master & Dynamic
No doubt choose 1990s style wired trend in-ear headphones—a must-have for anyone craving nostalgic tech from an era they may never have known about—Chanel has launched a “jewelry watch” in which the bracelet transforms into a necklace that hides a physical connection for headphones.
Premiere Sound watches are a musical accompaniment to the brand. The first watchcreated in 1987, but features a long sautoir necklace with detachable headphones and a classic 3.5mm jack—but don’t worry, the set also comes with a 3.5mm to Lightning and 3.5mm to USB-C adapter, for those who prefer more advanced technology on their phones.
The whole “luxury meets Lana Del Rey” The creation (available September 2) began two years ago as a sketch by Chanel watchmaker Arnaud Chastaingt, who toyed with the idea of cramming audio components into products that were worn as accessories. While the watch and necklace components could be handled in-house by Chastaingt and his team, Chanel wisely turned to Master & Dynamic—a brand with a reputation for collaborating with luxury brands including Louis Vuitton and Celine—for its audio expertise.
Speaking of which, the headphones feature 6mm planar diaphragms and 11mm beryllium-coated dynamic drivers with a frequency response of 20Hz to 20KHz, which isn’t bad at all. The cord itself has an inline remote for volume control, play/pause, answer/hang up, and skip forward and back, as well as a microphone for taking calls.
The wired headphones, however, are only IPX3 water-resistant—so only splash-proof. The 18K gold-plated quartz watch on the Première (with an octagonal case inspired by the stopper of a No. 5 perfume bottle) does much better, with water resistance to 30 meters, if you’re foolish enough to go diving with a piece of wearable audio jewelry that costs £12,600 in the UK, or $14,700 in the US.
If only Apple knew, when they removed the 3.5mm headphone jack from the iPhone in 2017, that it would start a backlash in the future wireless headphones like popularity AirPods would be considered very lame, all instagram channels will be dedicated to young, stylish people, showing off their youthfulness and style by wearing wired headphones, both looking cool and staying away from the conventional, better technology, common sense and convenience in general.
You see, you’ve got to suffer through your Y2K nostalgia. After all, how can you remember what it was like to play music on a Walkman or a first-generation iPod when you’ve never been there? Well, at least for now, Chanel and Master & Dynamic have entered the fray, offering a luxury option for those who are tired of their uncanny ability to wear fashionable clothes while wearing cheap headphones.
