This is how police found the 8-year-old boy

On Sunday (September 15), a family reported their eight-year-old child missing to the Bedford Police Department, according to TODAY.com. A service report said the 911 call came in just before 9 a.m. It was reported that two hours had passed since the family last saw the unnamed girl.

During the search, responding officers obtained footage from a neighbor’s Ring camera. Surveillance footage showed the child getting into the family’s 2020 Nissan Rogue and driving away around 7 a.m. The girl was spotted driving on a nearby road, but Bedford police were not immediately able to locate her, CNN reported.

Officers from the Bainbridge Police Department eventually found the missing SUV in the Target parking lot. The store is located about 25 minutes away, or 11 to 13 miles southwest of the child’s home, according to the service’s report.

When police entered the Target, they found the Ohio girl inside. Her family later picked her and the car up. She reportedly told police she crashed into a mailbox during her 25-minute trip. Given her age, it seems unlikely she will face charges at this time.

On Facebook, the Bedford Police Department found the whole thing to be a prank and joked about the girl enjoying a frappuccino.

“Finally found a woman who was in a bigger hurry to shop at Target than my wife,” the Bedford Police Department post reads. “More rushed than an 8 year old. That’s right, an 8 year old took her mom’s car this morning and drove to Target in Bainbridge to shop. Luckily, she arrived and was found by Bainbridge Police immediately. She is now home safe. Not sure what she bought, or if she even knew she could use the Target app to save 5% off. We let her finish her Frappuccino. No ill will.”

Meanwhile, Target employees are said to have said local TV channel WEWS-TV that the child had more than $400 when she walked in, shopped around, and then checked out. Neither Bedford nor Bainbridge PD would publicly confirm these details.

Speaking of teens having fun, in May 2023, an unnamed 10-year-old stole a 2017 Buick Encore while trying to travel from Buena Vista to Detroit, Michigan. Police tried unsuccessfully to stop him on Route 1-75. The car finally came to a stop after the driver crashed into a guardrail in a minor accident.
