Winch or diesel turbine: choose one
While the Rebel will come standard with the 2500 Heavy Duty’s 6.4-liter V-8 producing 410 hp and 429 lb-ft of torque, there will be a turbo diesel engine. That option uses a Cummins 6.7-liter diesel with 370 hp and 850 lb-ft of torque under the hood of the HD Rebel. Notably, it’s an option not available on the Power Wagon due to ground clearance issues with the all-terrain front suspension and the engine’s oil pan along with cooling issues with the standard winch.
Ram’s bolted skids under the Rebel to protect vulnerable sections such as the fuel tank and transfer case, but due to cooling issues the available 12,000 lb Warn Zeon-12 winch could not be optional with turbodiesel on the Rebel 2023. Rebel also doesn’t get the Power Wagon’s electronic disconnection shaker. The Ford Super Duty Tremor can be ordered with both a diesel turbine engine and a winch.
While the gas-powered V-8 is mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission, the turbodiesel gets a powerful six-speed transmission. All-wheel drive, a limited-slip rear differential and rear electronic locking are standard equipment.
Rebel corrects the Power Wagon’s lackluster work credentials with up to 16,870 lb towing and up to 3,140 lb towing. Those numbers are competitive with Current Ford Super Duty Tremor, though final ratings for the new 2023 model have yet to be announced. Nothing is known about the upcoming Chevrolet Silverado ZR2 2024 yet, other than that it will exist.

The Rebel follows the tried-and-true formula from the Power Wagon with 33-inch off-road tires. At launch, those tires will be on standard 20-inch wheels, but the optional 18 – Power Wagon that rides on 17-inch wheels – will eventually be available.
It will take a keen eye and more than a quick glance to pick Rebel out of the Power Wagon. With a similar look including black bumpers, black lower body color, Power Wagon grille and black trim, the Rebel’s main differentiator is the sporty roofline that rips out of the box of Mopar parts and different wheels. When the Rebel is equipped with a Cummins diesel engine, a turbo diesel badge sits proudly on the front fender. A small Rebel badge is located on the bottom left of the back door.
Each Heavy Duty Rebel will be a Crew Cab with a 6-foot 4-inch bed.

Inside the cabin, the Rebel gets cloth bench seats, but will have bucket seats up front, as well as Bristol leather for models with bench seats or Natura Plus leather for trucks equipped with bucket seats. Ram’s new 12.0-inch digital gauge cluster will be standard while a 12.0-inch touchscreen will be available.
Each Heavy Duty Rebel will have a surround-view camera system. Automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, active lane control and a blind spot monitor will be available.
At $68,940, the 2023 Ram 2500 Heavy Duty Rebel won’t come cheap. Ram says the Rebel sits between the Laramie and Power Wagon in the Heavy Duty lineup, but it’s more expensive than the current Power Wagon 2022. The price of Power Wagon 2023 is yet to be announced.
