5G Spectrum Auction: Cross Bid Rs. 1.50 Lakh Crore, UP East Sees interest rate extension on Sunday

The 5G spectrum auction capable of providing ultra-high-speed internet has received bids worth Rs 1,50.130 crore until Sunday amid increased demand for radio waves within UP East, pushing up prices tender to Saturday on Monday.

The seven new rounds of bidding held on the sixth day of the Sunday auction were ‘dial’ in increased Rs. 163 crore, driving cumulative selling beyond Rs. Mark 1.50 lakh crore.

The auction found a provisional bid worth Rs. 1,50.130 crore for the first six days, according to data released by the telecom department.

Sources said that after a relative easing in demand on Saturday, the UP East circle – which includes Lucknow, Allahabad, Varanasi, Gorakhpur, Kanpur – has seen bidding activity increase once again. for 1800 MHz, a band mainly used by telecoms for 4G service.

UP East – which has more than 10 crore mobile subscribers – accounted for all of Sunday’s incremental spectrum sales, amid a battle for radiation between players like Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel.

In May, Reliance Jio had 3.29 mobile subscribers in UP East, Bharti Airtel (3.7 crore) and Vodafone idea (2.02 crore).

Tender intensity for the 1800 MHz band in the Eastern Uttar Pradesh circle peaked Wednesday through Friday, then eased slightly on Saturday. On Sunday, however, renewed interest was seen, and flared demand once again outstripped spectrum supply, sources said.

All three private operators are said to be interested in increasing their shares in this band in UP East, as radio waves in the 900 MHz band are not available.

All eyes will be on this circle as bidding resumes Monday with the 38th round, and auction timelines will depend on how bidding plays out during the day.

Telecommunications Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw earlier said the 5G auction highlights that the industry wants to expand and has entered a growth phase.

“The auction results are very good, almost Rs 1,49,966 crore has been committed by the industry to buy spectrum,” Vaishnaw told a press conference on Saturday.

The fixed starting price for the spectrum is a “reasonable number” and this is visible from the auction results, the minister asserted.

Billionaire Mukesh Ambani’s Reliance Jio, Bharti Airtel led by Sunil Mittal, Vodafone Idea and a unit of billionaire Gautam Adani’s flagship Adani Enterprises are racing to bid for 5G spectrum, which offers speeds about 10 times faster. times that of 4G, the connection is latency-free and can allow billions of connected devices to share data in real time.

In addition to powering ultra-low-latency connections, allowing full-length high-quality video or movies to be downloaded to mobile devices in seconds (even in crowded areas) , Fifth Generation or 5G will enable solutions such as e-health, connected vehicles, richer hyper-diverse and augmented reality experiences, life-saving use cases and Advanced mobile cloud games, etc.

As of Friday, about 71% of the total spectrum included in the block had been sold temporarily.

After a favorable start on Tuesday, which saw players pour into Rs. 1.45 lakh crore on day one, the numbers have been inching up since Wednesday, with players like Jio and Airtel locked in a fierce bid in the Uttar Pradesh East circle for the 1800MHz band.

In total, 72 GHz (gigahertz) of radiated waves worth at least 4.3 lakh crore Rs are in the block in the 2022 auction. Auctions are being held for spectrum in various low frequency bands ( 600 MHz, 700 MHz, 800 MHz, 900 MHz, 1800 MHz, 2100 MHz, 2300 MHz, 2500 MHz), mid (3300 MHz) and high (26 GHz).
