50 Dalit families migrate out of Jharkhand village, Governor's Report Search

Medinagar:

On Tuesday, police said about 50 Dalit families had been kicked out of a village by members of a specific community in the Palamu district of Jharkhand, where they have been living for the past four decades.

Upon receiving the information, Divisional Police (SDO), Medininagar, Rajesh Kumar Sah, and Divisional Police (SDPO), Bishrampur, Surjit Kumar rushed to Tongri Pahadi area, 1 km from Murumatu village, and are camped there to maintain law and order, police said.

They say a criminal case has been filed against 12 named and 150 others in the matter.

Meanwhile, aware of the incident, Jharkhand Governor Ramesh Bais has expressed concern about the incident.

The governor sought a detailed report from Palamu Deputy Commissioner, A Dodde, within two days, a statement from Raj Bhavan said.

Dodde told PTI that police were asked to arrest the perpetrators immediately.

DC ensures priority for all 50 families in the same village to be rehabilitated.

Relief agencies have been activated for this purpose, Dode added.

The victims were all from the “Mushar” class and had lived in the village for the past four decades.

One of the victims, Jitendra Mushar, said: “We have lived in the village for many years together but some people, all residents of Marumatu village, forcibly took us out of the village on Monday. They piled up belongings. our belongings got into the car and dropped us off in the nearby jungle.” He alleges that they were also assaulted and prevented from approaching police in the matter.

The SDPO said those charged were asked to produce documents to prove that the land, where the Dalits were residing, belonged to an educational institute. Kumar said they were arranged to have them rehab in the same place.

The SDPO also said an FIR had been registered against the defendant and a massive manhunt was underway to arrest them.

SDO said the victims’ homes were demolished but they would be rehabilitated in the same place with full security.

He assured the families of the victims that the perpetrators would not be spared and would prosecute the accused.
