Death Valley National Park reopens after floods close
Popular parts of Death Valley National Park will reopen on Saturday two weeks after the massive flood caused millions of dollars in damage to roads and facilities. The National Parks Authority warned visitors to expect traffic and delays, warning not to rely on GPS positioning as some roads may remain closed while crews continue to clean up damage. Seasonal storms have also affected Joshua Tree National Park and Mojave National Reserve this summer. The National Weather Service said another surge in humidity is expected later this week, with mountain and desert thunderstorms possible next week.

London train workers go on strike
A rail strike is set on Saturday in the UK, just a day after a London Underground strike on Friday brought the capital’s traffic to a halt. Britain has seen a summer of workers’ strikes demanding higher wages as a response to rising food and energy prices. Many unions are planning strikes as Britain faces its worst cost of living crisis in decades. Postal workers, lawyers, UK Telecom staff and port workers have all announced walkouts later this month. UK inflation hit a 40-year high of 10.1% in July and the Bank of England said it could rise to 13% amid a recession later this year.

Last ‘Reliable Source’ broadcast, host Brian Stelter leaves CNN
CNN’s weekly “Trusted Source” media program will be aired for the last time on Sunday and presenter, Brian Stelter, will be leaving the network. CNN has been looking for ways to cut costs but also to come up with a less opinionated product. Stelter wrote the 2020 book “Hoax” about the Fox News Channel and is a critic of the network, making him a frequent target of conservative critics. “Trusted Sources” celebrated its 30th anniversary in March, becoming the longest running program on CNN. “It is a rare privilege to host a weekly program focused on journalism at a time when it has never been more consequential,” Stelter said in a statement to NPR on Thursday. He added that he’s grateful his show puts so much effort into “the media, the facts, and the stories that shape our world.”
