5 Patients, 3 Staff Dead In Madhya Pradesh Hospital Fire
Bhopal:
At least eight people have been killed in a massive fire at a private hospital in Madhya Pradesh’s Jabalpur. Pictures from the scene showed huge plumes of smoke rising from the building.
The fire broke out at New Life General Hospital near the Damoh Naka area of Jabalpur yesterday afternoon. Five patients and three hospital staff died in the fire. More than a dozen people were also injured, police said.
“It was a big fire, and our teams rescued all the people trapped inside the hospital,” said Akhilesh Gaur, Jabalpur’s police chief. He also said that the fire had been extinguished.
Police said the fire appeared to have been caused by an electrical short.
Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has announced compensation of Rs 5 each to the families of those killed in the fire.
