49ers still planning to replace Jimmy Garoppolo with Trey Lance?

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo received plaudits for playing the ball over a 3rd degree sprain of the ulnar protective ligament in his right thumb and fractured bone and, more recently, through a “mild” sprain to his right (throw) shoulder in the post-season league. While Garoppolo has the lowest total QBR (40.0) among signal callers who are still active ahead of Sunday’s conference championship, according to ESPN stats, some have wondered if his most recent winning streak has caused the 49ers to reconsider their plans to put rookie Trey Lance in place of Jimmy G at the top of the depth rankings.

Based on David Bonilla of the 49ers WebZone, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport spoke about the club’s quarterback situation during an appearance on local radio station KNBR on Monday afternoon.

“I hate to sound like a broken record, but I’ve seen where it goes,” Rapoport explains. “Unless I’m missing something, I still haven’t seen anything change what’s going on, it’s that Trey Lance has finally become part of the franchise. Garoppolo is the starter now. hour, and I would say that not everything goes according to plan in life, in football, in everything, but this sort of thing has been the 49ers’ plan.”

Rapport continued:

“Remember, they thought pre-season they had a playoff-ready roster and Garoppolo was the best man to get them to the playoffs. It happened. He was the best man to be there. And then, after the season, I would imagine they would scrutinize it and say, ‘What did Jimmy Garoppolo do to change our mind that Trey Lance is the one? future starters?

“I guess the answer is ‘No,’ but that’s okay because everyone’s going to be fine. be great. He’s going to be the starter at some point. And then everyone will move forward, and That’s a pretty good transition if you ask me.”

NFL analysts often point out that a quarterback’s record can be deceiving, especially if the individual is “cared” to victory by something such as a superior defense or a game Impressive attack. However, Garoppolo may be just four-quarters away from making his second Super Bowl appearance as San Francisco’s QB1, and has something to say about his consistent ability to win. won in January even if he didn’t make a Hall-of-Fame number in the playoff game.
