A 30-year-old dog living in Portugal has been recognized by Guinness World Records as the world’s oldest dog.
Bobi, born May 11, 1992 is not only the oldest dog alive – it’s also the oldest dog ever.
As of today, he’s 30 years and 268 days old – and was certified as the new record holder just two weeks after Spike, a chihuahua from Ohio, USA, was awarded the title.
The Bobi is a purebred Rafeiro do Alentejo, a cattle guard dog with an average lifespan of 12 to 14 years.
Its date of birth has been confirmed by the Portuguese government pet database and by the National Veterinary Association, says Guinness World Records.
The oldest dog ever was an Australian herding dog named Bluey – 29 years 5 months.
Bobi has lived all his life with the Costa family in the rural village of Conqueiros, Leiria, Portugal.
Leonel Costa, now 38, said he was born with three siblings in an outbuilding where the family kept firewood, but they had a lot of animals and had to let the puppies down, and Bobi hid exit.

Mr Costa said some of the biggest contributing factors to Bobi’s longevity were the “quiet, peaceful environment” he lived in, “far from the cities” and his diet. Bobi always eats “what we ate,” he said, adding that he has never been chained or worn.
He said Bobi’s mother, Gira, lived to be 18 and their other dog, Chicote, lived to be 22.
“Bobi is special because looking at him is like remembering people who were part of our family and unfortunately are no longer here, like my father, my brother or my grandparents, who have passed away. this world. Bobi represents those generations,” he said. more.
Due to age, Bobi’s eyesight deteriorated and these days he was less adventurous, preferring to relax by the fire.
“From being convicted at birth to now being the oldest dog verified, Bobi’s story is a miracle,” said Guinness World Records.
