3 ways to add texture to cookies
Hello! Last year, I showed you how to add text to sugar cookiesAnd today, I’m excited to share some ways to add texture to royal icing cookies.
Spring is just around the corner, so I decided to make a set of plant cookies using these three ways to create a textured look.
In this post, we will learn how to create a honeycomb texture and two different concrete textures. Let’s get started!
Material:
- bubble wrap
- wax paper
This is sugar cookies and royal icing recipe I’ve used.
Create a honeycomb texture
Step 1. Sketch and flood your cookies.
Step 2. Cut a piece of clean bubble wrap to fit the size of your cookie.
Step 3. Place the bubble wrap over the flooded water and gently tap it all around, making sure the icing completely touches the bubble wrap.
Step 4. Set aside to dry overnight. Gently peel off the bubble wrap.
How to create concrete texture
Step 1. Sketch and flood your cookies.
Step 2. Cut a piece of parchment the size of your cookie.
Step 3. Place the parchment over the flooded area and gently tap down around, making sure the icing completely touches the parchment.
Step 4. Set aside to dry overnight. Gently peel off the parchment.
Surface concrete structure
Step 1. Sketch and flood your cookies.
Step 2. Cut a piece of parchment the size of your cookie. Then bend it all back and open it up again.
Step 3. Place the parchment over the flooded area and gently tap down around, making sure the icing completely touches the parchment.
Step 4. Set aside to dry overnight. Gently peel off the parchment.
You can apply these techniques to any cookie you want. The honeycomb texture goes well with bee cookie sets, but I used it to get a rattan look.
Specific textures look great in just about every cookie theme. I hope you try these techniques. Happy cake eating! Xo, Ren
