2024 Subaru Crosstrek steps on the path of evolution

Subaru’s Crosstrek has been redesigned and a version for sale in Japan has been released.

The popular compact crossover, now in its third generation, will debut in the US next year as a 2024 model. Subaru will release specifications for this market closer to that date.

In Japan, the new Crosstrek will hit the market with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine paired with a mild-hybrid setup. Subaru hasn’t released any specs for the powertrain, but similar setups in other models suggest the engine delivers around 143 hp and the mild-hybrid version adds 13 hp.

Completing the powertrain is a continuously variable transmission (CVT) and all-wheel drive. Subaru says improvements have been made to reduce engine and transmission vibrations and noise compared to the current Crosstrek.

The platform for the vehicle is the latest version of the Subaru Global modular platform. Key changes made include a more rigid construction method, where the full inner frame is built first before the outer body panels are welded in. Previously, the body was created by building the upper and lower parts separately and then putting them together.

Stronger design, introduced in Latest WRX and Related Levorg, which is said to improve handling as well as absorb vibrations. Additional soundproofing materials were also added to further refine the cabin atmosphere.

At 176 inches long, the new Crosstrek is roughly the same length as its predecessor. This means similar cabin space, and the latest model also retains the 60:40 split-folding rear seats of its predecessor. Depending on the specs, the bike weighs between 3,395 and 3,571 lb..

As for the exterior design, Subaru enhances the look with new grille slats, extended front and rear panels, and available 18-inch wheels. The interior design mimics other recent Subarus and includes a conventional instrument cluster combined with a large 11.6-inch touchscreen in the center stack that serves as the infotainment hub.

The Crosstrek remains one of Subaru’s best-selling vehicles in the US, with sales there last year of 127,466 units. Improvements made to the redesigned model will help maintain that success.
