2024 Chevy Blazer EV Pack Up to 557 HP and 320 Miles
The Chevy Blazer is a nameplate that has worn many tricks over the years. From humble beginnings like the K5 Blazer short-wheelbase truck to the mid-size you see on the street today. Now, it’s about to go through another evolution to become a $45,000 electric SUV, with up to 557 horsepower and a range of 320 kilometers.
Apparently, Chevrolet was expecting Ford’s success with Mustang Mach-E and decided it wanted a piece of the electric SUV wheel.
From the outside, the Blazer would be a familiar image to most of us, as GM CEO. Mary Barra shared a photo of the new EV on Twitter earlier this year. But now that we have some more corners to enjoy, I think it looks pretty neat.
The side profile is perhaps the best view of the car. There are some nice curves along the bodywork and the way the tail lights run along the side is convenient. In the front, there is a long, thin light bar throughout Echo of Equinox and Silverado EVs coming next year.
But what’s under the hood here, or rather what isn’t, that’s what’s interesting about this car.
The new Blazer EV is Built on GM .’s Ultium Platform and there are four different trim levels. The base 1LT offers an estimated range of 247 miles and is front-wheel drive only. Front and front-wheel drive are optional on the 2LT and RS models, with a range of 293 and 320 miles, respectively.
Finally, Chevrolet has added an SS badge to its top-of-the-range Blazer EV, which it says will deliver up to 557 horsepower, 648 lb-ft of torque, and a zero-to-60 time in under four seconds. . It will also manage an all-electric range of 290 miles and come with all-wheel drive only.
“The Blazer EV SS has the soul of a true sports car,” said Scott Bell, Chevrolet vice president.
“And while it represents the pinnacle of performance for Chevy’s EV lineup, all models offer a thrill that will surprise and delight performance enthusiasts.”
Although the four models differ in range and performance, they all share the same 11.5 kW secondary charging capacity and come with Standard DC public fast charging up to 190 kW. This means you can increase the range to 78 miles in about 10 minutes, Chevrolet says.
Inside, Chevrolet has accumulated technology to try to make the consumer transition to electric vehicles “seamless,” the brand said.
That means there is no start button. Instead, hands-free starting means you can simply press the brake pedal once the doors are closed and your Blazer is ready to go.
The new EV also comes with electrically opening charging port doors, regenerative braking to upgrade your battery, and one-pedal driving. You can also specify your Blazer EV which includes hands-free lifting doors and GM’s hands-free driving software, Super Cruise.
GM says the Blazer and all of this tech will be ready to hit showrooms next summer. It will initially offer 2LT and RS models, priced from $47,595 and $51,995 respectively.
The SS will launch later in 2023 and the 1LT will be available from early 2024. The SS will start at $65,995 and the 1LT will start at around $44,995.
