Porsche does a lot of things well, but one area it does better than anyone else: special and commemorative versions of cars. Ladies and gentlemen, join hands with the company’s newest product, the 2023 Porsche 911 Carrera GTS Cabriolet America Edition. That name may sound catchy, but the only words you need to know are the last two. : America Edition.

That’s right, this is our very own star serrated variant of the 992 generation Porsche 911. It was built to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Porsche 356 America Roadster that debuted in 1952 – and by extension the anniversary. 30th anniversary of the 964 America Roadster, built to celebrate the 40th anniversary of that original 356.

The America version comes in only one color: Azure Blue 356, a modern color based on the original blue color of the first 356 America. Those with a keen eye will notice the white stripe along the sides of the car and an even smaller red stripe in the middle. Basically, they painted a Porsche red, white and blue. Fit.

At first, the wheels seem to be a plain white. Take a closer look: they actually come in three different finishes, which aim to make them pop and go back to the 356. Neato’s silver wheels.

On top of that, the wrap around the windshield is painted black to give this Cabrio a more polished look – tricking the viewer into thinking the construction is slim and elegant, just like on the 356.

Inside, the star motif continues. The interior is predominantly black, but is embellished with a variety of red, white and blue accents. Technically, it’s not white. The company tells us the actual color is Pebble Grey, as white would stick too much. It’s all about sophistication, which the United States is famous for.

On the back, the badges also have a bit of color to them. “911 Carrera” is written in white and “GTS” is written in Red Guards.

Small details can be found throughout the interior – a white tachometer and red shift pattern and misaligned stitching are just a few. Porsche says it wants America Edition buyers to continue to notice new design aspects as they own and love the vehicle. Oddly enough, there’s no numbered badge indicating where your example was in the limited edition run. However, the word “America” is written on the center console in traditional Porsche letters

The door sills also have the years 1952, 1992 and 2022 inscribed to commemorate America Roadster’s 70th anniversary. And the electric key is color-coordinated with the car’s exterior.

At its core, the America Edition is the 911 Carrera GTS Cabriolet, with its twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter six-cylinder making 473 hp and 420 lb-ft of torque, the same as the non-US version. .

That power is delivered through a mandatory seven-speed manual transmission. You read that correctly: You can’t get the America Edition with the PDK dual-clutch automatic. Porsche says that decision was made based on the enthusiastic preference for manual transmissions among US 911 buyers.

PASM is also standard equipment. The same goes for the sports exhaust and the Sport Chrono Package. Porsche is Porsche, there are still options. You’ll have to pay for rear-wheel steering and carbon-ceramic brakes.

You will also have to pay for the “extended interior package”. According to the people at Stuttgart, that package gives you all the conveniences in the interior you see. That includes things like the 12 o’clock markers in Guardian Red on the steering wheel and the Red Guards cross stitch on the inner edge of the wheel. It also adds two-tone stitching to the gearshift paddles and adds a gearbox graphic on the gear lever in Guards Red.

You can expect dealers to receive the cars by the end of 2022 and although they have yet to comment, Porsche expects them to sell out quickly. In total, 115 will be produced – 100 for the US and 15 for Canada.
