2023 Ducati Multistrada V4 Rally makes long road trips fun

A rugged adventure motorcycle poses on rocky ground in a desolate desert.

You can do this kind of stuff on your Multi V4 Rally, but you’ll probably just ride to a coffee shop.

Listen, I’m going to let you in on a secret – long-distance motorcycling sucks. Not only is it slower than taking a car, but it’s boring and painful with only brief moments of greatness, despite what you believe to be Ewan MacGregor. But what if there was a bike that could get out of that situation?

Ducati thinks yes, with the introduction Multistrada V4 Rally, focus on long-distance driving. Among the changes Ducati has made to its most technologically advanced road bike is the massive 7.9-gallon aluminum fuel tank. Seriously, that’s a huge amount of gas. In fact, the nearly 50-pound value can make riding the bike at low speeds a bit light but will also provide an epic range of travel.

Other changes include a new “Disable Expansion Cylinder” technology. Cylinder deactivation is nothing new on bicycles. Even large, air-cooled cruisers like the Indian Chief (dumb means simple, not necessarily bad) can shut off the rear cylinder when stopped to cut fuel usage. , emissions and, most importantly, the amount of heat released. a driver. Ducati goes even further by allowing the rear cylinder assembly of the Multi V4 to close while in motion, like deactivating the cylinders in a car. This means less heat, obviously, but going from 1,100cc to 550cc will go a long way to making those 7.9 gallons of gas go even further.

It’s not a great beauty, but it’s arguably the most technologically advanced motorcycle on sale today.

Ducati also wanted to make the Multi V4 Rally go anywhere, so it added more ground clearance (sorry short riders, you can buy a Instead it’s Harley PanAm?), a new throttle mode designed for off-road use and wider footpegs with rubber inserts. The semi-active Skyhook suspension also features an automatic leveling system, so no matter how many (or passengers) you have on the bike, the Multi will be riding at the proper height and not scratch backwards like the front runner.

The rest of the stuff that makes the Multistrada V4 S probably the best bike on sale right now all sticks around. That means you still have adaptive cruise control, blindspot warning, lean-sensitive ABS and traction control, wheelie control, etc. Seriously, the Multi V4 is almost smart enough to make you breakfast.

The Multi V4 Rally will be sold in North America in one flavor only, and that’s fully equipped with aluminum luggage, heated seats and grips and, of course, all the electronics you could ever ask for. Pricing starts at $31,495 in the US for Ducati Red; if you want it in black, add $500. Look for it in dealers starting in May of 2023.
