The World Car of the Year 2022 is about to be revealed a step further, with the shortlist of 28 models reduced to 10 finalists. And our Editor-in-Chief Steve Fowler was also on the jury.
The top ten models include a variety of models, with Electric Car occupies four positions, along with family services such as Hyundai Tuscon and focus on enthusiasts Toyota GR86.
Audi‘S Q4 e-tron also made the list, thanks to its smooth interior technology and robust real-world coverage, with Cupra Formentor is another entry from Volkswagen Group. Two Korean EV relatives in the form of Kia EV6 and Hyundai Ioniq 5 also present, was later crowned Express car of the year in 2021.
Genesis also appeared with G70 Executive salon has arrived as part of the brand’s European entry. The Ford Mustang Mach-E brings sporty dynamism and sleekness to the table, while Lexus NX won votes based on its electrified powertrain and luxurious interior. The new one Honda Civic shortlisted the top ten and is expected to land in the UK next year exclusively in hybrid guise.
The car of the year will be announced at the 2022 New York International Auto Show, after being selected by a panel of 102 driving journalists from around the world. More wins in other categories are also on the way, such as World Electric Car of the Year – luxury Mercedes EQS and full of technology BMW iX participation Audi e-tron GT, Ford Mustang Mach-E and Hyundai Ioniq 5 in the battle for the top spot.
There are also awards for best performance car, best luxury car and best city car, and each model in every category will go head to head for the title of World Car Design of the Year. This will be chosen by some of the world’s most prestigious car designers, including Ian Callum and Tom Matano, formerly Mazda’s Head of Design. The Audi e-tron GT, Kia EV6, Ford Mustang Mach-E, Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Mercedes EQS each has made the final year.
The top three Car of the Year contenders will be announced on March 15, with the winners in all categories to be revealed at the New York show on April 13.
