‘2000 Mules’ is the highest grossing documentary of the year (So far)
Michael Moore is the most successful documentary filmmaker of the modern era.
Fact-checkers may howl at his tactics, but his movies earn the kind of narrative money that makes a lot of money.
Consider:
- “Fahrenheit 9/11” (2004) – $119 million
- “Sicko” (2007) – 24 million dollars
- “Capitalism: A Love Story”- (2009) 14 million dollars
Pundit filmmaker Dinesh D’Souza may have been successful with him in recent years.
Not only did Moore’s output decline, but so did his total sales. Moore’s 2018 film, “Fahrenheit 11/9,” marked his lowest box office gross – $6 million.
Meanwhile, D’Souza’s latest film is the best-selling documentary of 2022…so far.
According to Box Office Mojo, “2000 Mules” earned $1.3 million in two weeks of release. Most documentaries make less than a million dollars. Some will be happy to make half that amount.
The film’s box office take, in a market that has finally shaken off the constraints of the pandemic, is substantial.
And it’s hard to end the story for a movie that questions the results of the 2020 presidential election.

The film is available in select theaters (usually under 500), which has reduced its box office potential. It’s common for documentaries to release, which rarely gets the amount of screen your average MCU movie gets – think over 4,000 filmmakers.
The film’s theatrical run faced other serious turbulence.
“2000 Mules” had a brief theatrical run before debuting on VOD-like services (Rumble and Locals.com) last month. According to Salem Media Group, that omnidirectional distribution strategy has grossed $10 million as of May 12.
Plus, the movie was on DVD for a few days. On Amazon.com, it’s the number one release in the “Movies and TV” category.
The film’s $1.3 million gross was astounding given all of that, not to mention the negative media reaction.

It helps with “2000 Mules: Delivering a Story that defies conventional wisdom about the 2020 election.” President Donald Trump went on to claim he beat Joe Biden fairly and with integrity two years ago. , but he could not defend that position.
D’Souza’s approach is different, and more complex. “2000 Mules” alleges that spoilers, as measured by geocracking technology, influenced the vote in several swing states.

The film’s message received mixed reactions on the Right Wing. Daily Wire author and podcaster, Andrew Klavan, finds much of the material fascinating but doesn’t think it confirms the wrong politician won on November 3, 2020.
Judge Washington made both the movie and D’Souza so excited in a recent review.
Still, Trump’s hardened fan base insists it’s an election smoker.
