200 fleeing strife in Bangladesh entered Mizoram: Official | India News
AIZWAL: More than 200 people from Bangladesh fled to the southernmost Lawngtlai district of Mizoram due to armed conflict between Bangladesh Army and the Kuki-Chin National Army (KNA), an official said Monday.
The KNA is the armed wing of the Kuki-Chin National Front (KNF), a political front formed by the ethnic Kuki-Chin-Mizo community in Bangladesh, demanding a separate state and protecting the community in the neighboring country.
The official said 274 Bangladeshis, including 125 women and children, had fled their villages in Bangladesh and immigrated. Siminasora in Lawngtlai district on Sunday evening due to the recent encounter between the Bangladesh Rapid Action Battalion and the KNA.
He said the Bangladeshi nationals, belonging to the Kuki-Chin-Mizo community, came from seven villages for shelter. He added that the county government is giving them relief on humanitarian grounds.
