Password manager provider 1Password has announced that it will allow users to ditch passwords for passwords as the company moves toward a password-free future.
ONE password provides an alternative to passwords by storing a unique digital key on your device, be it on a smartphone, laptop or something else.
Passwords require you to actively own your device to access online accounts associated with the passcode, making it difficult for cybercriminals to remotely steal your username and password equal Cheat or malware attacks.
Password theft remains one of the most common and problematic types of cyberattacks and one of which is usually starting point for major cybersecurity incidentsfor both citizens and businesses.
“Instead of playing the game of swatting with the password, why not completely eliminate that avenue of attack? That’s our mission. That’s why we’re at the forefront of the password-free campaign. and why we’re committed to adding full support for 1Password for password creation, management, and use,” said Steve Won, Product Manager at 1Password wrote in a blog post.

So from the end of this year, users will be able to use the passcode to unlock 1Password Password Managerinstead of using a password.
This provides an extra layer of security for the password, because while using a password manager is highly recommended to improve online securitythey are still password protected in the end – and can be a password breach.
That means, if an attacker steals or guesses the password for your password manager, they can potentially gain access to all the accounts where he or she keeps the passwords. But for 1Password users, that will soon no longer be the case, as they can instead switch to a passcode, preventing unauthorized intruders from accessing their 1Password accounts.
“We’re extremely excited to announce that, starting this summer, you’ll have the option to create and unlock your 1Password account with just one password! No password needed,” Won said.

While 1Password currently offers the ability to unlock accounts with biometrics, the company points out that they don’t replace passwords, they just mask them – which is why the app occasionally asks for passwords to make sure you still have the password.
1Password also notes that not using a password sounds counter-intuitive – after all, not using a password looks like it would allow anyone to gain access to an account no matter what. But the reason there’s no need for a password is because the unique key is stored on your device.
“Unlike user-generated passwords, passwords are strong and unique by default. They’re generated and stored on your device, and they’re never shared with our cloud service,” Won said. we”.
1Password aims to begin rolling out the passcode feature in “early 2023,” starting with browser extensions and desktop apps, followed by mobile support.
