Police say a 13-year-old girl was rescued from her owner’s home in Gurugram last night, where she has been horribly abused over the past few months.
Officials said the girl, from Jharkhand, was found with wounds all over her body, adding that she had been taken to hospital for treatment.
Doctors are also conducting a medical examination to determine if she has been sexually assaulted.
Sources said the girl was beaten by the couple with hot tongs and sticks. Initial investigation revealed that the couple would starve and beat the girl, accusing her of “improper work” and stealing food.
“She hasn’t been fed for days. She often eats leftovers from the trash,” an official said.
The girl was rescued by the police based on a complaint filed by an NGO based in Gurugram. The NGO contacted the police after a Twitter thread about the girl’s condition went viral yesterday by an activist.
Photos shared by activist Deepika Narayan Bhardwaj show the girl with cuts and burns on her forehead, lips, cheeks and arms.
This 14-year-old girl was brutally beaten by an intellectual couple in Gurgaon. There is no body part without torture. They cut her, beat her, burned her with chimta. She was hired by the couple a few months ago through a job placement agency to take care of their three-month-old daughter.
The couple was arrested and a case was registered under the Juvenile Justice (Children Care and Protection) and Protection of Children from Sex Crimes Act or the POCSO Act, among other charges.
The photos of the girl that are now widely circulated have caused strong reactions. Sources say the woman was fired by the organization where she worked.
