When filming a movie about a kid turning 13, Eli was really to be 13. He’s going through a lot of the same feelings as Evan in the movie. “I’ve been shifting a lot of my emotions since I was 13 and feel this sense of middle ground and not really sure. I infuse it into what Evan is feeling,” Eli said. “Honestly, it’s been a really lucky thing for me, because now it’s going to be hard for me to recall what it was like to be 13 years old and in the middle of a young life. Looking back now, I am extremely happy to capture that moment on film. I really grew up trying to film. There was responsibility. I had to learn to take losses. I also learned how to take the wins and really all that matters.”

Eli do’s On-Screen Parents Debra Messing and Peter Hermann. His grandmother is played by Dai Rhea Perlman. Working with such big stars in Hollywood doesn’t go away for Eli.

“It’s absolutely terrifying when it’s real,” Eli said HollywoodLife. “I am a giant Josh Peck even fans. God, everything they’ve done is done. At first, I was really, really scared to deal with them, but they were good. As we continued, I felt more comfortable and I learned a lot. In every scene I did with them, I learned something new. I just want to go to the green room or go to my mom on set and say, ‘Oh my, I learned this.’ It’s an entire class from the masters. “

The film chronicles Evan’s journey to prepare for the Jewish birthing ritual. For Eli, what was “really important” for him was showing the Jewish faith on screen, especially for younger audiences. “When I was growing up, I never watched movies about Hanukkah or bar mitzvahs. It’s always the Christmas movies,” Eli said. “I’m so lucky to be a part of something that I can really represent because it’s really, really important to me. Also, I really like the idea of including this whole town, where there are three Jews in it, all the kids are there and they’re having a great time. Really interesting and vibrant to see people there having a good time and accepting his culture. “

Eli loves that 13: Musical shows how necessary forgiveness is for everyone. “I feel like that’s an important message in this movie because forgiveness right now is super, super, super important. Actually one of Rhea’s sayings was, ‘If you don’t forgive anyone, you’ll have no one but yourself.’ I like that idea. That’s what really got me,” Eli admitted.

As for the rising teen star’s sequel, he’s working on an EP. “I have a song right now called ‘Back To Me’. I’m really excited that that’s going to be released because I feel like every single song on that EP is going to be an imprint of a certain moment in my life,” Eli revealed. “I am really happy to be able to share that with the world. I have a wonderful mother. She’s a singer-songwriter, and she helped me with some of that. I am also very happy for that. “ 13: Musical Now available on Netflix.
