‘Tis the season for spooks – Halloween is the one time of year where we can have the ghoulish joy of dressing up in a spooky costume and scaring each other in broad daylight without having to call the authorities.
Of course, sometimes you just want to experience the joy that comes with extreme fear completely within the safe four walls of your own. This is the perfect time for PlayStation to transport you to various otherworldly scenes that will make you shiver, scare and smile.
There are plenty of seriously awesome horror games on PS4 and PS5 that will do the trick or treating, but here’s a selection of our favorites currently on PlayStation Plus that will make for a wild Halloween experience great right at your home…. No need for cursed video tapes.
Dead Space | Electronic art

The sci-fi survival horror genre was given a bloody new lease of life when EA’s instant classic hit the PS3 in 2008. Since then, it’s had several spin-offs and installments. followed, but the 2023 remake on PS5 reaffirmed how atmospheric, tense and well-constructed Dead Space always was. Surviving the fearsome Necromorphs of the fearsome ship Ishimura is an unforgettable experience, but remember: not all headshots yield the intended results. You have been warned.

With its fun anime style and colorful high school setting, you’d be forgiven for thinking that this visual novel is naive and even a bit saccharine. But if Doki Doki Literature Club Plus! there was a voice, which would laugh sinisterly at such an understandable but completely erroneous assumption. Beneath the cheerful surface lies a dark, inventive, fourth-wall-breaking psychological thriller that twists the story in directions I promise you’ll never see coming. Seriously – this is not for the faint of heart.
