‘Wicked’, ‘Sing Sing’ continue to win consecutive AFI awards
The American Film Institute has named the 10 best films of the year. And while this is just one of many lists released this week, it deserves special attention — because it’s one of the strongest indicators of which movies will be nominated for Best Picture at the Oscars.
The Best Picture Oscar winner has also appeared on AFI’s top 10 list every year since 2009, with two exceptions: in 2011 and 2019, when an international film won Best Picture. (As its name suggests, AFI only honors American films.) And even in those two years, artist And Parasites received a special AFI award, meaning the body still recognizes the ultimate best photo winner.
This year’s list includes many anticipated frontrunners, from Anora ARRIVE Felon ARRIVE conclave. Sing Sing, which previously won big at the Gotham Awards, was also included nickel guy, has regained momentum after performing well in the Indie Spirit Award nominations. sinister is also having a good week when it entered AFI’s list and was also honored as the best film of the year by National review board on Wednesday.
The inclusion of Emilia Perez—a predominantly Spanish-language musical filmed internationally—may seem at odds with the group’s focus on American films, but since the film stars American actors Zoe Saldana and Selena Gomez, it can be considered; AFI’s rules state that any film is eligible if it has “significant creative and/or production elements from the United States. Stories do not need to be presented in English otherwise.” Arguably American.”
The most notable ones on AFi’s list include September 5 And Gladiator II, both remain in the bubble this awards season after missing out on critics’ lists and other awards this week.
AFI also selected the top 10 TV shows of the year, citing Emmy favorites such as bear, hack, And ShogunAt the same time, it highlights some hits that are loved by the audience such as No one wants this And Penguin. by Netflix Baby reindeera British production, will be honored with a special award for falling outside the group’s eligibility rules.
