Billionaires are literally afraid to publicly support Kamala Harris for fear of being punished by Donald Trump

As you may have heard by now, there is one presidential election occurred in less than two weeks. Voters will have the option to vote for Kamala Harris, who never incited a deadly attack on the Capitol or fawned over dictators, either Donald Trump, who even Republicans have said is responsible for the 2021 uprising causing many deaths and has never been encountered before a dictator he did not admireinclude Adolf Hitler.* In other words, the fate of democracy is at stake, and no candidate is open support fascism could use as much help as possible, as the polls, somehow, show a neck-and-neck race.

And yet, despite the very serious risks, at least two powerful billionaires who privately support the vice president seem too afraid of Trump — and the consequences of opposing him — to publicly endorse Harris.

One of those billionaires is the CEO of JPMorgan Chase Jamie Dimon, an extremely outspoken CEO, who New York Times reported Tuesday “made clear” privately “that he supported Vice President Kamala Harris” but “did not make his position public because he feared that if Mr. Trump won, he might retaliate against those People and companies have publicly opposed him.” run.” (In a statement, a JPMorgan spokesman said Dimon, a registered Democrat, “has never publicly endorsed a presidential candidate, but he has often spoken out “strongly and frequently on policies that strengthen our country and uplift our communities.”) Dimon told executives, according to two people familiar with his private conversations practice on Wall Street that while he is a supporter of Harris, “he has a duty to JPMorgan shareholders to protect the public company from potential political retaliation.”

The other billionaire — a multi-billionaire, to be exact — who supports Harris but fears the consequences of saying so publicly is also the founder of Microsoft Bill Gates. Also on Tuesday, time reported that “after decades on the political sidelines, Bill Gates, one of the richest people in the world, privately said that he recently donated about $50 million to a nonprofit organization supporting the presidential nomination of Vice President Kamala Harris.” That $50 million would certainly be appreciated by the campaign, but the fact that it was supposed to be “secret,” and that Gates also chose not to publicly endorse Harris, is a bit worrying. (According to time, The multimillion-dollar check was made out to Future Forward USA Action, an organization that did not disclose the names of its donors.)

Like time notes, Gates “has long sought to stay out of politics so that he can gain credibility with both Democratic and Republican audiences and administrations.” In a statement to this news outlet, Gates emphasized his bipartisan stance, saying: “I support candidates who demonstrate a clear commitment to improving health care, reducing poverty and combating climate change in the United States and around the world. I have long experience working with leaders across the political spectrum, but this election is different, with unprecedented significance for Americans and the world’s most vulnerable people. ” This, reading between the lines, could also be an endorsement of Harris – but Gates clearly chose not to say so.

All of which you can understand! Trump has repeatedly threatened to go after people who don’t support him, and quite literally, threaten campaign donors. This month he speak The US military should be used against “the enemy from within” if necessary and on weekends confirm that the phrase refers to his American political opponents.

And yet, that’s all than reason for people like Gates and Dimon to speak out in support of Harris and do whatever they can — including making public endorsements — to prevent her opponent from retaking the White House. Where, if he’s to be believed, he’ll start going after those who didn’t kiss the ring on the first day — and who knows what else.

*Here’s where we have to tell you: Trump denies saying nice things about Hitler, leaving it up to you to decide whether his former chief of staff is telling the truth, or someone famous for it . spew more lies in a day than most people do in a lifetime. Also, something to consider: the very long list of anti-Semitic things Trump has speak about the Jews.
