Guard Orlando has been determined parents are 46-year-old Jorge Rivera and 45-year-old Dagmarie Aponte Iturrino.
Officials charged Deltona, Florida parents with assault on a law enforcement officer and armed robbery for the incident at the school. According to the report, there are additional charges related to the father snatching the school resource officer’s taser weapon after she fell to the ground following the blows. Why do Florida parents go to their sons’ schools?
According to the arrest report, the father became angry during a meeting. Apparently, the deputy told the parents that another student would not face charges for throwing a shoe at their 11-year-old son. The 11-year-old boy was present at the meeting.
After receiving an update on his son, the father began insulting and cursing at the deputy. In response, the school resource officer calmly asked them to leave, according to the arrest report. However, after leaving the deputy school’s office, the mother stood between the police officer and her husband. The mother then pushed the deputy. During the struggle, the husband punched the female deputy in the face and electrocuted her. Bodycam video from the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office shows the confrontation.
Finally, the deputy stood up, drew his weapon, and ordered the father to drop the stun gun. She then handcuffed the father. Medical personnel treated the school resource officer for a possible concussion and transported her to the hospital for further treatment.
During a press conference, Volusia County Sheriff Mike Chitwood LOOKED ON about the incident involving the deputy.
“To say, ‘I’m angry’ is an exaggeration,” Chief Chitwood said. “There is no reason why I would have a deputy get concussed over something as trivial as that.”
